What you get
There’s nothing to choose between. Hiring the Hub gets you the whole facility. The hall, the kitchen, the green, the carpark and the gear that goes with them. Here’s what that actually means.
The hall
The main room. Big enough for a party with room to dance, quiet enough for a meeting where everyone can hear each other. Timber floor, windows down one whole side, and a servery hatch straight through to the kitchen.
How many it holds depends on how you set it up, whether that is seated at tables, rows of chairs, or standing. Tell us what you are planning when you enquire and we will confirm what fits.
The kitchen
Included with every booking, whether you are boiling the kettle for a meeting, plating up a birthday spread, or bringing caterers in.
Have a look through the photos: the gas range, the fridge, the bench space, and the hatch through to the hall. Catering and need to know something specific? Ask and we will check it for you.
The green
Flat, open and properly looked after. The croquet club plays here every week, the market spreads across it once a month, and it takes a jumping castle or a game of backyard cricket without any trouble.
Having indoors and outdoors in one booking is the part people underestimate. It means a wet Saturday doesn’t cancel anything, it just moves inside.
Tables, chairs and crockery
The gear is already here. Tables and chairs, and enough plates, bowls and cutlery to feed a crowd, so you are not hiring crockery in or eating off paper plates at a 60th.
We have not counted it down to the last teaspoon. If you need exact numbers for your set-up, ask when you enquire and we will go and count.
It is included in your hire. A donation towards upkeep is welcome, never required.
Parking and getting in
There is parking on site at 36 Ashby Street, so your guests pull up at the door rather than hunting for a spot down the street.
It is an open gravel area rather than marked bays, which means it takes a good deal more than a lined carpark would. On market Saturdays it fills, and cars spill along the street.
On accessibility: tell us what you need when you enquire and we will tell you straight what works here and what does not. We would much rather you knew before you booked than after.
The park next door
The Hub backs straight onto McGregor Park, with a playground, a roofed shelter with picnic tables and a barbecue, and the tennis courts beyond it. The outdoor pool is a short walk away.
It is not ours and we cannot book it for you, but it is a minute from the hall door and it is free. For a children’s party that is the difference between two hours indoors and a day out.
Safety
There is a defibrillator on site, and the hall has the usual fire equipment and marked exits. If you are running something large, the conditions of hire cover what we ask of you. See hire & pricing.
